How much does a fine line tattoo cost in Los Angeles?

At Kastana in Sherman Oaks, a fine line tattoo with Agne starts at $300, which is her minimum. Above that, fine line tattoo cost in Los Angeles depends on size, detail, placement and how long the work takes. You get an exact quote from the artist after you send your idea through our booking form.

That is the honest answer. Prices vary a lot across Los Angeles, and a number without your design attached does not mean much. What we can do is explain what goes into a quote, so the price you receive makes sense.

What affects fine line tattoo cost in Los Angeles?

Four things shape almost every quote:

  • Size. Bigger pieces take longer. Small does not always mean cheap, though, because tiny work is slow and precise.
  • Detail. A simple outline is quicker than micro realism shading, tiny color work or lettering with many letters.
  • Placement. Ribs, hands and curved areas can take more time to work on than a flat forearm.
  • Time in the chair. Fine line and single needle work is careful by nature. A design that looks simple can still take a while to do well.

Custom drawing is part of the work too. Every design at Kastana is drawn for the person getting it.

Why does a fine line tattoo have a minimum price?

A minimum covers what every appointment needs regardless of size: a custom design, a private room, single-use needles, sterilized equipment and time the artist reserves for you alone. Agne's minimum is $300, so even the smallest piece starts there.

The upside is that small tattoos get the same care as large ones. If you are planning a few tiny pieces, mention that in your request so the artist can tell you how they might fit into one appointment.

How does the quote and booking process work at Kastana?

Getting a price is simple:

  1. Send your idea, references, placement and approximate size through our booking form.
  2. The artist replies with thoughts on the design, a quote and available dates. Responses take a few business days.
  3. You pay a non-refundable deposit to hold the appointment. The deposit goes toward the final price, so it is not an extra cost on top of your tattoo.
  4. You pay the balance after the session.

For Agne's appointments, the deposit can be paid by card or Zelle, and the balance by cash, Zelle or Apple Pay. If you need to reschedule, a new deposit is required, so choose a date you are confident about. Clients must be 18 or older with a valid federal or state ID.

Is a cheaper fine line tattoo worth it?

Fine lines leave very little room for error. A line that goes too deep can spread and blur, and a line that is too shallow can fall out while healing. Fixing either is harder than getting it right the first time.

When you compare fine line tattoo prices around Los Angeles, look past the number. Look at healed photos in the artist's portfolio, how they talk about your design and whether they are honest about what will and will not hold up over time. A good artist will sometimes suggest making a design slightly bigger or simpler, even if that changes the quote, because it will age better.

What other costs should you plan for?

A few smaller things are worth knowing before you budget:

  • Aftercare basics. You need a fragrance-free, non-antibacterial soap and a fragrance-free, alcohol-free moisturizer. Many people already have suitable ones at home.
  • Touch-ups. Agne includes one free touch-up within six months. Hand and finger touch-ups are $50 within one month.
  • Rescheduling. Moving your appointment means a new deposit, so the cheapest plan is booking a date you can keep.

What do you get for the price at a private studio?

Kastana is a private, appointment-only studio at 13455 Ventura Blvd in Sherman Oaks. There are no walk-ins, so your appointment time is yours. Every needle is single-use, equipment is sterilized and the design is drawn for you.
